now a stronger proposition with a classic lp and three hit singles behind them, marr and sumner embarked on a short tour of europe in december ’91, playing dates in paris (at le palace on the 6th), glasgow (barrowland ballroom on the 9th) and london (wembley hall 1 on the 12th). every song from the first album was played at one gig or another, plus getting away with it, free will and the new track disappointed, sung by bernard at the glasgow and paris concerts, and by neil tennant at the wembley show, where pet shop boys joined them for performances of all three of their collaborations. there were plans to tour america in october/november but that obviously fell through.

most of the songs retained their original structure, but get the message incorporated the piano riff from the 12" dna version, some distant memory built audience anticipation to a climax with some extended instrumental sections, and feel every beat borrowed elements from the rampling/lorimer remix. rampling dj’d with mike pickering at the london show, while idiot country remixers stereo mcs, who later lambasted the venue for its poor acoustics, were the support act. (sumner and marr themselves were reticent about the venue—click here for more info.) audience recordings of the british gigs are in circulation, though exact information about the paris show is elusive.
