distributed by parlophone as factory records was imploding (having been assigned the catalogue number fac 348), the disappointed single represented a musical peak for electronic as well as a commercial one. stephen hague’s brilliant 7" mix was complemented by an inventive 12" version by 808 state and a reworking of idiot country so extreme that it almost became a different song, although an extended mix of gangster was released in the usa instead. housed in a stately sleeve and accompanied by a suitably gorgeous video, disappointed was a package of genuine class.
