the second-longest electronic song after make it happen (remixes aside), radiation is seven and a half minutes of guitar feedback, bombastic drums and synthesiser effects. more noteworthy than the music, however, is the fact that co-producer arthur baker gets a songwriting credit—the track presumably born out of studio jamming—as is the heavily treated voice proclaiming “we’re like crystal, we break easy” twenty-four seconds into the song. this is especially interesting as it’s the opening line of new order’s 2001 top 10 hit crystal. when twisted tenderness was released in the usa, warning sign and king for a day were tacked on but radiation was not, with darren price’s thumping remix of make it happen featured instead.
