this brilliant video occasionally resembles derek jarman’s film for the queen is dead, with its rapid splicing of abstract footage with shots of the band running around and miming. three versions exist: a promo edit; the second (above) to coincide with the single release; and a third version made by the production company rockamerica, which utilised a great deal of footage not featured in the previous two edits. despite being labelled “rockamerica remix”, the audio itself was the tactile mix, the first track on the us 12". peter scammell’s 1993 video for manic street preachers’ from despair to where looks quite similar; it may even be the same mansion.
