the promo edit of for you was used for this enjoyable video, in which the band plays in a caravan while someone who looks rather like ewan bremner in trainspotting (which had been released six months earlier) drives around in a jeep. sumner, marr and jimi goodwin grin and enjoy themselves as spud and a girl in a white dress cavort and paint the caravan, before it’s completely destroyed by a sherman tank in the middle of a field. it’s a video as fun and capricious as the song it promotes. richard heslop has also directed videos for new order (fine time, spooky) and happy mondays (hallelujah), amongst others.
